Perioperative Services is comprised of three dynamic collaborative and interactive settings, Main OR/PACU TH6 and Day Surgery OR/PACU TH10 & HCC2, designed to meet the needs of surgical patients. Patients are often seen from pre-op to PACU while on the same floor. While many of our patients are discharged home direct from our PACU settings, others are recovered and transferred to an inpatient or critical care settings for a more lengthy stay.

  • The Day Surgery TH10 Suite is comprised of a prep area inclusive of a children’s playroom, ten operating room suites and a thirty bedded PACU.
  • The Day Surgery HCC2 Suite is comprised of a prep area, five operating room suites, and a ten bedded PACU.
  • The Main OR TH6 Suite is comprised of eighteen operating room suites.
  • The Main PACU/CVSCU TH6 is twenty-seven bedded and is comprised of a twenty-two bed general PACU and a five bed open heart recovery room.

Our nurses are specialists in either OR or PACU nursing and each group provides specialized care to their patient population.

  • The OR RN’s role in all settings provide highly technical OR specific skills and is a key participant in the surgical process.
  • The Day Surgery PACU RN’s role begins with the pre-op phone call and continues through prep, Phase I, Phase II, and the post-op phone call.
  • The Main PACU RN’s role provides comprehensive acute and critical care nursing care during the immediate postoperative recovery phase.

The client population crosses the spectrum of ages. Adult, child, neonate and fetal surgery are performed and cared for across the continuum.  Some examples of surgeries performed include but are not limited to:

Perioperative Nursing:

  • Our Day Surgery PACU nurses initiate contact with patients two days prior to their surgery, facilitating early interventions and alleviating fears.
  • When patients arrive to one of our three pre-op (prep) area, Rusk 6, TH10 and HCC2, on the day of surgery, they are greeted by a nurse who has reviewed their chart and is collaborating with the interdisciplinary team (i.e. Anesthesiologist, Surgeon, Fellow, Resident) to develop a unique and specialized plan of care.
  • The OR nurse guides them into the operating room and maintain a safe surgical environment while providing technical expertise.
  • When the patient is brought into Phase I of the PACU, the patient is monitored, stabilized, and sent to either Phase II of the PACU for Day Surgery patients and are further assessed and prepared for discharge or they are sent to an inpatient setting where they will be discharged at a later time.

Our energetic staff exceeds expectations by going above and beyond the standard of care. We facilitate a team approach to family centered care and make teaching a priority in our day to day routine.

In keeping with our Magnet goals we have a high regard for continuing education and encourage committee involvement. Most of all, these interactive units supportstaff who enjoy their career and seek out opportunities for growth and development.
