Pulmonary Unit
Having a strong foundation and an environment that promotes learning is paramount to becoming an expert practitioner. As a combined medical/respiratory unit, 17W provides the groundwork for building your future career. This unit serves a multicultural patient population who are admitted to the "Teaching Service" and whose diagnoses include but are not limited to pneumonia, congestive heart failure, renal failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The Medicine-Pulmonary Unit provides a great opportunity for staff to engage and collaborate with physicians during teaching rounds as the plan of care of the patient is discussed. The staff are committed to deliver quality patient care.
Our Facilities
17 West Medicine-Pulmonary Unit is a 35 bed unit: 8 Step-Down Unit beds and 27 regular room beds which includes two negative pressure rooms. Specialties include:
- Telemetry monitoring
- Interdisciplinary rounds (daily coordination of patient care with focus on achieving optimal patient outcomes and decrease length of stay)
- Teaching rounds
- Nurse Attending Model: Faculty from NYU College of Nursing and NYULMC participate as Nurse Attending and work in partnership with the medical team
- Provides opportunities for learning and critical evaluation of patients
Staff Quality
- Previous Medical-Surgical and/or critical care experience preferred
- Critical thinking skills
- Ability to interact with interdisciplinary teams
- Positive attitude
- Experience with endotracheal tubes
- Experienced RNs preferred but new grads are welcome
